Paulo Freire Freedom School-University is a public middle school, serving 75 students in grades 6-8. The school provides students with an` engaging curriculum, uses research-based teaching practices, attends to the needs of the whole child, and connects learning to the wider community.
PFFS-University is housed at the historic YWCA building on University Boulevard – home to a progressive community of organizations that promote the arts, education and the environment. The school’s urban and walkable location, close to both the University of Arizona campus and downtown Tucson, creates many opportunities for place-based learning experiences that deepen students’ understanding of the school curriculum and the world around them.
PFFS-University opened in 2005 and served as the model a decade later for Paulo Freire Freedom School-Downtown, which opened in 2014.
