Educators and community members are invited to a panel-style community conversation on the topic of supporting transgender youth in schools. Panelists to include Dr. Russell Toomey, Chair of the Youth Development and Resilience Initiative and Associate Professor at UA’s Norton School of Family & Consumer Sciences; along with a transgender high school student, a parent of a transgender student, and an elementary school principal with experience helping transgender students excel. The panel will be moderated by Eve Rifkin, Director of College Access, at City High School.
The event is free and open to the public. Join us on 11/30/2017 from 6:00-8:00 pm at the YWCA Tucson, located at 525 N. Bonita Ave.
In this community conversation we will discuss strategies to help keep transgender students safe and thriving in school despite the recent withdrawal of federal guidance on transgender students. Come and share your insights and knowledge – and bring your questions – on this important topic. CITY Center for Collaborative Learning is proud to co-sponsor the event, alongside the Frances McClelland Institute for Children, Youth, and Families and the YWCA, and to share the good work happening in our schools as we strive to support all students.
