On March 1, we opened the doors to our new collaborative learning center to share and celebrate the new space with the community. The renovations looked amazing: the light blue stage backdrop, stunning floor-to-ceiling windows, polished concrete floor, subtle and stylish lighting, and newly-revealed barrel vault ceiling were each competing for attention – and together they created an incredible wow effect!

But it was all the people and the bustle of activity that truly made the renovated building come to life. Classical guitar music filled the ‘commons,’ as a student duet performed for the crowd. Student art work was displayed on easels in the exhibit hall. In the makerspace workshop, middle schoolers from the robotics club demonstrated their mechanized lego creations. Culinary students served appetizers they had prepared. An estimated 150 people were in attendance – touring, talking, and taking it all in. Some dropped by for a short while and others stayed for the full evening to listen to talks by the architect, board members, and community leaders.

The open house was also a campaign kick-off. We launched the public phase of our CITY capital campaign, inviting the community to join us in the next phase of the renovation plans.

Thank you to all who turned out to celebrate with us and bring new life into an historic building now ready for its next chapter! Visit the Facebook photo album and a short video on our YouTube channel to get more glimpses of the special evening.
