Our annual fundraising appeal letter is headed out in batches this month–and while we are asking for support, we are also sharing gratitude with our supporters. Another way we are giving thanks this November.

Our new collaborative learning center on opening night, March 1, 2018.

Autumn has finally arrived in the Sonoran Desert. It has been an exciting school year thus far for our organization and three schools, all humming with energy and momentum. Your support has allowed us to expand into new spaces, continue to teach in ways that engage young people and connect them to their community, and share our practices with educators. With your help, we continue to thrive, innovate, and create wider impact!

I am proud to spotlight some of our 2018 successes:

  • Opening a new center. The first phase of renovations at 37 E. Pennington Street is complete and we welcomed the community into our new collaborative learning center on March 1. Since then the building has been in nonstop use, hosting daily classes and special events, including teacher workshops, 8thgrade graduations, student performances, parent nights, drama classes and a makerspace elective.
  • Engaging with our education colleagues—in Tucson and beyond. From facilitating trainings in Santiago, Chile to engaging with hundreds of educators locally, we are leading and collaborating to share exemplary practices with our teaching colleagues in Southern Arizona and around the globe.
  • Challenging students to show what they know. Our middle school and high school students have embraced opportunities to present their work and learning through portfolio presentations, student-led conferences and year-end exhibitions—all powerful experiences that help them become savvy and self-aware learners.
  • Collaborating with community partners. We are nurturing deep roots with nonprofit, government, education, and business allies to do our best work. Field trips, artist residencies, internships, fitness classes, teacher workshops, community forums—we do so much with our partners and are grateful for the opportunities.

I invite you to make a tax-deductible donation to our annual fund to help fuel the good work we are doing. Donations can be mailed or made online at CITYccl.org/donate.

And this year, please also consider making a once-in-a-generation investment in our CITY 2020 capital campaign to support phase two of our new center. Contact me to schedule a tour and learn about the renovation and campaign, and our vision for the future.

In gratitude,

Carrie Brennan, Executive Director
